Norton FinCom Backs Sewer Bylaw, DPW Update
Finance Committee · Meeting of September 9, 2026
Norton Finance Committee reelects its chair and eases a sewer hookup rule. Chair Bill was reelected 7-0 with one abstention, and member Gavin was elected vice chair unanimously at the September 9 meeting. The committee unanimously recommended a bylaw change letting homeowners skip a five-to-seven-year sewer tie-in deadline unless they sell their home or their septic fails, shifting connection costs from buyer to seller.
Members took "no action" on accepting King Philip Road and Charlotte Avenue, worth an estimated $200,000 and $160,000 to $170,000 in repairs, after officials said the article as written was legally void; a resident petitioner is expected to amend it from the town meeting floor to add betterments of $500 to $1,000 a year per household. New Town Treasurer Lindsay Grasso walked members through the town's roughly $12 million debt load, saying "debt exclusions, they do sunset... with associated debt when it is retired." Member Steve flagged $444,000 in unbudgeted fire department spending in the town's latest financial report.
