Select Board · Meeting of September 17, 2026
Norton Select Board returns $350,000 to taxpayers and fills six town jobs in one meeting. The board unanimously approved shifting $350,000 from the overlay surplus account to reduce the fiscal 2027 tax rate, acting on a Board of Assessors recommendation, with Vice Chair Rich saying "we don't need it, we should give it back." Members also appointed Sarah Mongeau as town accountant, swore in new full-time police officers Alec Clark and Caroline Turcotte, and filled posts in parks and recreation, veterans services, public works and the town clerk's office. Separately, the board approved a capital improvement package covering fire apparatus, school security cameras and water main design work, and voted to move Election Day polling from Town Hall to Norton Middle School.
The Traffic Safety Committee flagged an unresolved bike path safety issue at Cobb Street and North Washington Street pending a state handover.
