Norton board sends King Philip Road article to warrant
Select Board · Meeting of September 3, 2026
Norton Select Board backs special act to pave two private roads. The board voted unanimously to send a King Philip Road and Charlotte Avenue acceptance article to the fall town meeting warrant, favoring a state "special act" over a standard road-taking so the town could fund repairs, estimated near $200,000, without acquiring the land. Town Counsel Sharon Everett said a special act would need a two-thirds town meeting vote before heading to the Legislature, a process the town manager pegged at "realistically, between three and nine months." One resident said "we, the residents, are under much more pressure because of this delay." Separately, the board withdrew two governance articles, a representative town meeting proposal and a Finance Committee selection change, from the warrant after members said they hadn't had time to review them, and appointed five members, including Marianne Dempsey and Steve Warshaw, to a new Bylaw Study Committee.
