Norton School Committee Approves $11.4M Roof Article, Accepts $182,000 in Grants
School Committee · Meeting of February 11, 2026
Norton School Committee unanimously approves $11.4 million middle school roof warrant article and $182,000 in grants. The committee voted Wednesday to place an $11,443,631 appropriation before Spring Town Meeting for a roof replacement at Norton Middle School, with the Massachusetts School Building Authority potentially reimbursing up to 55.63 percent of eligible costs; the Select Board was set to take up a companion debt exclusion ballot question the following night. The board also accepted four grants — a $50,000 timeout-practice regulation grant, a $47,000 innovation career pathways award, a $10,000 career and technical education grant, and a $75,000 fair share earmark from State Senator Feeney for math and science curriculum — all due to be spent by June 30.
Superintendent Jennifer O'Neill presented a proposed FY27 operating budget of roughly $38.7 million, a 4.4 percent increase driven largely by more than $2 million in contractual salary obligations, and warned the committee that the governor's budget would deliver only $157,800 in new Chapter 70 aid against a $1.6 million need. The committee also announced a tentative agreement with the Norton Teachers Association, reached without mediation, with a ratification vote still pending.
