School Committee · Meeting of August 26, 2026

Norton School Committee approved a capital plan that fast-tracks security camera upgrades after a summer outage. The panel, chaired by Justine Callanan, moved a $21,000 Norton Middle School camera server replacement up to fiscal year 2027 and set a new $25 flex club fee for nine-session clubs while keeping the existing $50 fee for 18-session clubs unchanged. Superintendent Jennifer M O'Neill reported the district's six-year DESE district review praised budget transparency and strategic planning but flagged workforce diversification and special education parent engagement as growth areas.

Student Trevor Houston told the board during public comment that students with disabilities are disciplined "at more than six times the rate" of their peers, citing 1,137 incidents districtwide. The committee also approved surplus sales of two minibuses and a van, and heard that proposed federal E-Rate cuts threaten funding that has brought Norton schools roughly $500,000 over the past decade.
