Norton Planning Board Approves Aubrey Lane Duplex Subdivision, Seeks Zoning Fix

Norton Planning Board unanimously approved a six-unit duplex subdivision on Aubrey Lane and voted to pursue an emergency zoning fix at spring town meeting. The board passed five separate 6-0 votes on Definitive Plan DEF 4 and Special Permit 35 for 1 Aubrey Lane, clearing Morris Legacy Real Estate to divide a 7.5-acre parcel into three lots each developed with a duplex, including waivers for a landscape architect stamp and an environmental impact study backed by Conservation Director John Thomas, who wrote that the project "will not result in a loss or impact of any wetlands, endangered species, habitats." The board also voted 6-0 to authorize town planner Paul to file placeholder language for a spring town meeting article adding a definition of top-of-the-shop housing to the general zoning bylaw, after board member Steve warned the current standard is being interpreted to allow any residential use above a commercial space by right. A contested 36-unit-per-building apartment remand at 0 Mansfield Avenue, represented by attorney Jack Jacoby, was continued to February 24 after the applicant agreed to shift a building 12 feet eastward and convert a sewer connection from a force main to a gravity line.
