Town Meeting · Meeting of October 1, 2026
Norton previewed 13 Fall Town Meeting warrant articles, including a betterment for two private roads and a tax-rate relief vote. The Select Board and town manager said a proposed King Philip Road and Charlotte Avenue paving betterment would likely cost abutting owners around $500 a year for five years, far below a since-retracted $2 million estimate that applied only to a full Chapter 90 rebuild. The town manager said "that $2 million money factor doesn't apply anymore." Officials also recommended returning $350,000 from the overlay surplus account for fiscal 2027 tax relief, an estimated $52 cut for the average single-family homeowner, and moving roughly $4 million in free cash into a higher-yield stabilization account projected to earn close to $100,000 in six months.
Four municipal unions have settled contracts retroactive to July 1 with no new budget appropriation needed. Town Meeting convenes October 19 at Norton High School.
